Porcine health

Expertise

The research performed by the unit of porcine health aims to improve health, production, and welfare of pigs and focuses on the following topics:

  • infectious diseases with emphasis on diseases of the respiratory tract and economically important diseases diseases with a negative effect on (re)production, fertility of male and female pigs, locomotion problems
  • factors influencing colostrum- and milk production and vitality of piglets
  • diseases relevant for public health (Salmonella), responsible use of antimicrobials, disease transmission and biosecurity

Clinical research

In addition to the previous research, the group also performs clinical orientated research based on cases from the field. Most research is done in collaboration with other national and international research groups, pig veterinarians, external laboratories and various companies.
